About this course

What will I learn?

The Masters by research programme is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the specializations of data management and information retrieval, information security, information systems management, intelligent decision support systems, or software systems.

This programme is intended for:

  • Candidates who aspire to pursue a career as an IT professional career, such as IT consultant, IT architect, IT project manager or instructor.
  • Candidates who plan to work in research and development, or product innovation.
  • Candidates who wish to prepare for PhD studies.

The curriculum consists of a master thesis [12 Credit Units (CUs)] and coursework comprising of courses and Empirical Research Projects, making a total of 20 CUs for graduation requirement.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have: Good undergraduate degree. A good score in GMAT or SMU Admissions Test. TOEFL/ IELTS is required if the medium of instruction of your undergraduate studies was not in English. It must be taken within the last 2 years at the time of submitting your application.

For international students

The minimum entry requirement for admission into this programme is a Bachelor degree with good honours in a relevant discipline. Candidates should be keen to pursue research at the intersection of IT and business.

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Applicants whose medium of instruction for their Bachelor degree is not in English are required to submit TOEFL (international test) scores.
