What will I learn?

The main component of the MEM programme is a group of seven Core Modules. These are:

  • Business and Environment
  • Environmental Economics and Public Policy
  • Environmental Law
  • Environmental Management and Assessment
  • Environmental Planning
  • Environmental Science
  • Environmental Technology.

Candidates must complete and pass all the seven core modules.

In addition, candidates must complete EITHER:

  • A Dissertation (20,000 words long); OR
  • A Study Report (10,000 words long) and an Elective Module.

The third component of the MEM programme is the Seminar Series. Each candidate must attend a minimum of ten seminars which are specially arranged for the MEM programme, and complete and submit a report on the series. These seminars are organised roughly each fortnight during both semesters of each academic year, and are delivered by prominent practitioners and researchers from Singapore and abroad, on subjects in a broad range of fields relating to environmental management

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants require a Bachelor’s degree with honours or equivalent, in a relevant discipline; or a Bachelor’s degree with a relevant Graduate Diploma/Graduate Certificate with a minimum CAP of 3.00. English Language Requirements: TOEFL score is required: 85 for the internet-based test (with a minimum score of 22 for the writing section); or 580 for the paper-based test; or 237 for the computer-based test; an IELTS score of 6.0.

For international students

In general, the University requires:

Normally a good Master’s degree in a relevant discipline; or an NUS Honours degree (at least Distinction/Second Class Upper Division) or equivalent (e.g., a four-year Bachelor’s degree with an average grade above B) in a relevant discipline, subject to approval by the Faculty, on a case-by-case basis.

English Language Requirements: Minimum TOEFL score is required: 85 for the internet-based test (with a minimum score of 22 for the writing section); or 580 for the paper-based test; or 237 for the computer-based test. IELTS result of 6.0 is required.
