What will I learn?

Program Objective

This programme is designed to provide an excellent knowledge of statistics and training in research to students who intend to develop a career in Statistics either in the industry or academia.

Period of Candidature

The minimum period of candidature will be one academic year and the maximum will be three academic years, both counted from the date of the candidate's admission to the programme.

Degree Requirements

Candidate for the programme must successfully complete at least six 5000 level Statistics modules approved by the applicant's supervisor and the Graduate Programme Committee. A candidate must take ST5214 and ST5215 and obtain a satisfactory grade for the Graduate Seminar Module ST5198. In addition, the candidate must take three modules from ST 5000-level modules (Please click here for description of the modules) with the exception of ST5201, ST5202, ST5203 and ST5318. The candidate must receive a minimum CAP of 3.00 (an average grade of at least B-) for 6 courses from among the prescribed courses.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants require a Bachelor’s degree with honours or equivalent, in a relevant discipline; or a Bachelor’s degree with a relevant Graduate Diploma/Graduate Certificate with a minimum CAP of 3.00. English Language Requirements: TOEFL score is required: 85 for the internet-based test (with a minimum score of 22 for the writing section); or 580 for the paper-based test; or 237 for the computer-based test; an IELTS score of 6.0.

For international students

Applicants should have a good Honours degree or equivalent qualifications from a recognised institution. In particular, NUS/NTU graduates should have at least a second upper Honours degree. In addition, the applicant’s Bachelor’s degree programme should include a substantial amount of mathematics/statistics.

Proficiency in English is a requirement for admission to all graduate programme in NUS. An applicant whose native tongue or medium of undergraduate instruction is not English must have a TOEFL score and the minimum TOEFL score ranges for NUS are as follows:

  • Paper-Based (PBT): 580-600
  • Computer-Based (CBT): 237-250
  • Internet-Based (iBT): 85
