What will I learn?

Civil engineering activities cover very broad areas of disciplines, including structural and construction engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, water resources and environmental engineering, etc. Civil engineering essentially deals with all the physical infrastructure and supplies that support and sustain human activities. In a sense, the advancement in civil engineering practice is an accurate measure of the level of civilisation and it provides the foundation for economic and business competitiveness of a country.

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering programme in NTU is intended to equip students with the latest advancements in knowledge and technology in modern civil engineering practice.

The course leading to the degrees of Master of Science in Civil Engineering comprises coursework with or without a M.Sc. dissertation. A total of 30 Academic Units (AU) is required for graduation. In general a candidate will take subjects from several disciplines within civil engineering and graduate with a fairly broad knowledge, leading to the degree of Master of Science in Civil Engineering - M.Sc. (Civil Eng).

Entry requirements

For students from United States

An applicant must have completed at least a Bachelor Degree (Honors) or European/German FH Diploma or its equivalent in areas of Science/Electrical/Electronics Engineering from a university with recognized standing with at least a 2nd Class Honors or equivalent. As the Programme instruction medium is English, applicant must be able to demonstrate a satisfactory level of the language. Applicant whose native tongue or medium of instruction from previous studies (Bachelor / FH Diploma) is not English must submit at least one of the following: TOEFL score indicating a minimum of 600 for Paper based test or 100 for internet based test; IELTS: With academic IELTS result of at least 6.5.

For international students

Have a good Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent in a related discipline.

A good TOEFL/IELTS score for applicants whose native language is not English. Test dates must be within 2 years or less from date of application.

TOEFL : 600 / 100 (Paper / Internet)

IELTS : 6.5 (Academic)

Application period will open from November to January each year.
