Programme aim
There is a growing need for competent and educated leaders, both onboard ships and in onshore organisations. With the Master’s programme in Maritime Management both students without industry experience as well as officers and shore-based personnel will get the opportunity to further train them to get an important role as future leaders. Leaders who can guide the shipping industry into a new era faced with demands for effective logistics solution and strict quality demands. The students also get the possibility to participate in research education and research projects.
The programme gives the students a theoretical and practical knowledge in Project Management, Quality, Risk and Safety Management with a well proven Chalmers standard at Master level. These courses are generic and are included in Chalmers Master’s programs in International Project Management, Supply Chain Management, Quality and Operations Management. The programme also gives Master’s level standard’s skills within the areas Leadership and Communication, Marine Environmental Protection and Energy Management from courses developed by professional researchers at Chalmers Department of Shipping and Marine Technology. Finally the programme also puts emphasis on business acumen with courses as Business Development and Business Strategy Management.

Bachelor’s degree with a major in: Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Port Management, Shipping and Logistics or the equivalent.
Prerequisites: For applicants without a major in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering, there is an additional prerequisite of studies in Maritime Law or Maritime Transport Economics or the equivalent.
Preferable course experience: Professional experience relevant to the Maritime industry.
Accepted tests and minimum results required: IELTS Academic: an overall mark of 6.5 and no section below 5.5; TOEFL Paper-based: Score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test, total score of 575, TOEFL Internet-based: Score of 20 (scale 0-30) in written test, total score of 90; Pearson PTE Academic: Score of 62 (writing 61); C1 Advanced (CAE), Cambridge English: Advanced (Certificate in Advanced English), or Cambridge ESOL Level 2 Certificate in ESOL International, Level C1.
