What will I learn?

Course Information

This programme prepares you for progression to Higher Education to study Biomedical Sciences, Nutrition or Dietetics.

It will also meet the entry requirements for Nursing, Midwifery and professions allied medicine such as Physiotherapy. Occupational Therapy, Operating Department Practitioner and Paramedic Science. It will also allow you to progress to Chemistry-based courses and courses which require high science content for entry, such as Forensic Science.

What Will I Learn?

You will study Biology, Microbiology and Chemistry as your main subjects, with supporting units in Mathematics and Study Skills.

The development of Essential Skills is vital to your development and progression to the world of work. Emphasis is placed on the development of Study Skills and will include essay writing, assignment writing, referencing using the Harvard system and presentation of work using IT.

All subjects are divided up into chunks of learning called units, which may be at level 2 i.e. GCSE standard, or level 3 i.e. A level standard.

Assessment

You will be assessed by tutors throughout your course. Assessment will cover practical skills, oral questioning, assignment work and written questions. You will be required to sit short examinations throughout the course.

Career Progression

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to apply for Honours degree courses in Higher Education in a wide range of Nursing and Healthcare Professions, or Biological Science and Chemistry Degrees, and courses at a University or Higher Education Institution of your choice, or seek employment.
