What will I learn?

This is a research-focused master’s level training course which can cover a range of research-specialisms within the biological sciences.

Course overview

Our MRes course in Biological Sciences allows you to carry out an extensive Master’s-level research project alongside two taught modules. You will have the opportunity to develop research and project management skills as well as building your knowledge and experience in your chosen subject area.

Teaching methods

Teaching can be delivered via lectures, laboratory practical classes, field trips and seminars, supplemented by online material such as discussion boards and analytical exercises. You will also can contribute to departmental research seminars, a journal club and tutorials.

Assessment

Taught modules are assessed via coursework assignments. The dissertation project culminates in the production of a paper suitable for submission for peer reviewed publication.

Classroom based fee: £13,643; laboratory-based fee: £17,574. A bench fee may be payable in respect of certain high-cost subjects for other subject areas. This fee is also applicable to Channel of Island. This fee is also applicable to Channel of Island. The mentioned fee is 2023/24 entry, there may be slight increase in 2024/25 entry.

Entry requirements

For international students

International/EU Students: Students from countries outside the UK are expected to have entry qualifications roughly equivalent to British Bachelor's degree (or equivalent). We accept a wide range of qualifications and consider all applications individually on merit. We may also consider appropriate work experience. They need an IELTS academic 6.5 (no less than 5.5 in any band), TOEFL iBT overall score: 88 with minimum sub skill: Listening 17, Reading 18, Speaking 20, and Writing 17.
