What will I learn?

This is where it gets serious. We can help you develop a wide and marketable range of professional performance skills.

The focus is acting, singing and dancing. We emphasise high-level performing, supported by in-depth analysis of relevant theory. You'll be able to specialise in Musical Theatre or Acting pathways, so whatever your desired career is you'll be able to focus on improving your core skills.

Join us in our state-of-theatre, studio rooms and recording studios.

What will I study?

You’ll be learning through practical assignments and the study of performance arts disciplines. Production projects bring this to life – and will see you involved from backstage to front of house. You’ll study the following mandatory units:

Investigating practitioners’ work

Developing skills and techniques for live performance

Group performance workshop

Performing arts in the community

Individual performance commission

Final live performance to an audience

Employment opportunities in the performing arts

After choosing to specialise in either Musical Theatre or Acting, you’ll be able to choose from a range of units including:

Puppetry technique

Singing techniques for performers

Movement in performance

Developing the voice for performance

You’ll perform various productions in College and at local theatres, taking your work to live audiences across or community. The year culminates in a final major production: 'Attempts On Her Life' and 'Into The Woods' have both featured recently. Widening professional horizons is all part of the process, with trips to West End performances and local theatres.

You will study towards the Level 3 Diploma (90 credits) in your first year, and progress on to the Extended Diploma (180 credits) in your second year.

Alongside your course you’ll study English and maths and take part in GAP work placements to develop your skills and confidence.

What can I do next?

Further study options include HNDs here at College or degrees in Performing Arts, or a professional diploma in drama school focusing on acting or musical theatre. Possible careers include professional theatre, film and TV acting – for private and commercial organisations.
