What will I learn?

This 4-year BEng degree equips you with the underlying knowledge and skills you need to become a creative Civil and Structural Engineer, capable of planning, designing and overseeing the construction of sustainable structures and transport infrastructure systems. Civil and Structural Engineering involves the design, construction, and maintenance and repair of infrastructure such as roads and bridges, buildings, and underground transport systems. You’ll develop a broad knowledge of geotechnical, structural, environmental and management aspects of civil engineering, and gain the computing, mathematical, drawing and communication skills you need as an engineer. A placement year in industry, taken in year three of the programme, enables you to build contacts whilst developing your skills and professional confidence. On completion of the programme you’ll be able to enter range of graduate civil engineering roles. You’ll be joining a dynamic profession with a high demand for skilled graduates, and contribute to the prosperity of our society.

Entry requirements

For international students

Typical offer – 104 UCAS tariff points. A levels: BCC to include A level Maths at minimum grade C. T Levels: Merit or higher in the following subjects – Science; Maintenance, Installation and Repair for Engineering and Manufacturing; Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing; Engineering, Manufacturing, Processing and Control. BTEC Extended Diploma: DMM. BTEC Level 3 (2010–2016): Must be an Engineering subject including Further Mathematics for Engineering Technicians (Unit 28) at minimum Merit, or Construction and the Built Environment including Further Mathematics in Construction and the Built Environment (Unit 19) at minimum Merit. BTEC Nationals Level 3 (from 2016): Must be an Engineering subject including ‘Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems (Unit 7) and ‘Further Engineering Mathematics (Unit 8) at minimum Merit. Applicants on Access Programmes: 104 UCAS tariff points from an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Engineering or Science and Engineering, which must contain a minimum of 12 credits in Maths at minimum Merit. International Baccalaureate Requirements: 104 UCAS tariff points to include Higher Level Maths at grade 5 plus Higher Level grade 3 or Standard Level grade 4 in English. Plus a minimum of GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C or 4 (equivalents accepted).
