In this PhD project you will develop mathematical models to investigate the behaviour of liquids at surfaces. The focus of the project will be on the dynamics, structure/pattern formation and thermodynamics of complex three-component (and three-phase) liquids in contact with various surfaces. You will develop partial-differential-equation models and analyse them using a range of advanced mathematical techniques and numerical solutions. The project can go in various directions. One possible direction is an in-depth analysis of the structures that can form when such mixtures undergo phase change in contact with a surface, such as freezing or evaporating. Another possibility is the modelling of some specific industrial processes related to manufacturing structures on surfaces using inkjet printing.
