English PhD University of Leeds

Course info

Undertaking a PhD gives you the opportunity to explore in depth a topic that interests you, while also making a valuable contribution to your chosen field. With expert guidance from one or two supervisors, you’ll conduct an extensive independent research project and use your findings to produce a thesis of around 100,000 words. You’ll gain advanced knowledge of your chosen subject and develop a range of skills that’ll prepare you for specialist career paths both inside and outside of academia. As a research student with us, you’ll join a diverse and welcoming community that participates fully in the intellectual and social life of the wider University through events, research groups and other activities. You’ll have access to numerous funding, training, and development opportunities that’ll both support your studies and prepare you for life after graduation. You’ll also benefit from our partnerships with organisations such as Leeds Playhouse, Opera North, and Ilkley Literature Festival, as well as our links with universities around the world.
