This program develops the knowledge and understanding of the established principles in the field of Food and beverage manufacturing, where students are encouraged to experiment in both academic and employment skills disciplines.

Manufacturing covers a wide range of environments and to this end we have included a specialist food pathway under this qualification.

During this Food Manufacturing degree you will cover the following topics:
- Mechatronics covers the principles of operation and applications of sensors, conditioners and actuators in a range of engineering environments.
- Organisational Behaviour sets the base level of how groups or teams work together and what motivational and environmental factors align with well-developed research and practice.
- Engineering Graduate Skills established the key link between preparing work for an academic pathway and the needs of the workplace. To plan, manage and understand where learning can deliver positive outcomes.
- Food Processing gives an overview of food manufacturing and an understanding from a scientific perspective.
- Hygiene and Food Safety brings together the rules, regulations and law in relation to food handling and production and an understanding of the need for hygiene and safety practices.
- Math and Mechanics focuses upon the mathematical strategies and processes involved in solving a wide range of engineering problems.
- Production Management looks at the engineering business techniques that contribute to the production of successful products.
- Robotics and Automation Systems is an in-depth study of robot features and attributes that make them suitable for certain tasks.
- Manufacturing Processes takes a close look at the key processes involved in converting materials into useful products.
- Mechanical Principles looks at the advanced development of the underpinning science and applied mechanical work.
- Food and Drink Innovation and new product development looks at current and significant developments that have an impact on contemporary products.
- Food Quality and Sensory Science studies quality assurance and the key role sensory testing plays in controlling the quality of manufactured foods.
- Level 5 Project gives the flexibility to focus on a specific area of food engineering, this may be directly related to work or your own interest. You will go through all aspects of prototyping and product development using a wide range of skills and expose you to the ups and downs of working on your own project.

How will it be assessed?

There will be a range of coursework and practical work. Examinations will be formally set and will occur at appropriate stages of the course dependent on learning outcomes. These will be published in the assessment plan at the start of each year.


Upon completion of this course, you can move on to study a BSc (Hons) in Engineering (Integrated Technologies) at Petroc.
