What will I learn?

Foundation Learning courses are designed for young people aged 16-18 with few qualifications to give you the skills to progress to Level 2. This course is made up of two qualifications: Level 1 Certificate in Business (September to December) and Level 1 Certificate in Travel and Tourism (January - June). You will start by working towards the Business modules. If you successfully achieve all the modules and have good attendance you will then be registered for the second qualification (Travel and Tourism).

The course will encourage you to develop the practical skills and essential know-how required for today’s rapidly expanding world of travel and tourism. You will have the opportunity to develop both general and specialist skills. You will complete projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

Travel and tourism units include:

  • UK Travel Destinations
  • Planning for a job in Travel and Tourism
  • Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
  • Planning for and taking part in a visit

Business administration units include:

  • Welcoming visitors
  • Working in business administration
  • Recording business transactions
  • Working in a team
  • Managing your health at work

You will also study Functional Skills in maths and English.

The course includes visits and work based activities.
