Our PhD by Papers option allows you to split your research into separate papers. Course overview Conduct your own Global Ethics research with the support of experts from the Department of Philosophy. Explore key ethical issues that have a real-world impact on people's lives. Choose either a traditional PhD or a PhD by Papers. Access expert supervision on a range of issues, such as justice and development, environment and health, gender justice, and conflict and security. At Birmingham, our practical application of Global Ethics sees researchers focus on contentious topics while responding to events and debates across the world.

Entry requirements

For international students

To apply for the PhD, we usually require a good (normally a 2:1 or above) Honours degree, or an equivalent qualification if you were educated outside the UK, usually in a relevant area. Youll also need to hold a Masters qualification at Merit level or above (or its international equivalent), usually in a relevant area. Any academic and professional qualifications or relevant professional experience are normally taken into account, and in some cases, form an integral part of the entrance requirements. If youre applying for distance learning research programmes, youll also need to show that you have the time, commitment, facilities and experience to study by distance learning.
