What will I learn?

The foundation year of this programme provides students with non-standard entry qualifications a thorough and supportive academic preparation for successful degree level study in the School of East Asian Studies. On successful completion of the foundation year, students will progress to BA Japanese Studies.The foundation year to this degree is carefully designed to build your confidence in your abilities, develop essential academic and study skills, and provide the subject specific knowledge essential for success. You will study within the Department for Lifelong Learning, where we have nearly forty years’ experience working with adult learners, helping them to unlock their potential to succeed at degree-level study.

Entry requirements

For international students

To be eligible to apply, you should:

  • have been out of formal full-time Level 3 education (usually A Levels or Access courses) for more than two years
  • have potential to succeed on your chosen course, evidenced by a combination of work, life and prior educational experience
  • have an understanding and commitment to the subject-area of your chosen course
  • be prepared for the demands that undergraduate degree level study will place upon you
  • be 21 or over
