Summary

Successful and effective project managers recognises the significance of processes, technology and people to the success of construction projects. By studying project management in construction at a postgraduate level, you'll learn to effectively lead projects and implement strategies, in preparation for future senior roles in the construction industry.

This course will equip you with the knowledge and expertise needed to plan, organise, secure and manage resources to bring about the successful completion of projects to the client’s expectations and satisfaction. Course content is designed for individuals and corporations managing change in a fast-moving business and project environment.

Throughout the programme, emphasis is placed on integration in projects and leadership in performance improvement. You will also learn to recognise the significance of processes, technology and people to the success of projects in the design, property and construction industries.

You will:

  • Learn how to plan and manage construction projects and project information
  • Learn how to critically evaluate current construction processes and practice, and propose alternative improvements
  • Learn how to analyse corporate problems, and design and implement strategies for change
  • Learn how to lead and work effectively in project teams, and communicate effectively

TEACHING:

Campus-based study will develop your knowledge and skills through a blend of theoretical, collaborative and practical methods, including:

  • Project work
  • Lectures and tutorials
  • Directed study
  • One-to-one tutorials (by appointment)

Lectures introduce the core knowledge for each module. Tutorials provide a forum for discussion and debate with personalised instruction from tutors, and the project work is your chance to employ research and other techniques to develop solutions to prescribed tasks.

If you’re studying via distance learning, you’ll enjoy access to an internet-based learning environment backed up by intensive tutor support. Weekly online tutorials are led by tutors with student interaction. Our online repository of learning material enables you to undertake self-directed study at your own convenience. Learning is driven by real-world problems with application to your workplace and job role.

ASSESSMENT:

Written coursework and on-going feedback by your tutors.

For full-time students, some modules are assessed using presentations.

Entry requirement for international students

You must have a minimum of a second class honours degree. We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully. International students must demonstrate evidence of proficiency in English - IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5 or an equivalent qualification is proof of this.
