What will I learn?

This BSc Operating Department Practice degree is for you. Operating Department Practitioners help respond to the physical and psychological needs of patients in surgery. The course places great emphasis on practical learning so you’ll get to experience live clinical environments. Working under supervision, you will help with daily duties, learning by observing, shadowing and practising. You’ll have access to our state-of-the-art clinical skills and anatomy laboratories. With a BSc in Operating Department Practice you could work as an ODP in an NHS Trust or private healthcare provider in the UK. After a period of employment as an ODP, some graduates have also progressed on to posts in education in universities and NHS Trusts, leadership and management posts in the operating department, Advanced Practice posts in critical care, and sales representatives. Some graduates have moved to work overseas and posts are typically available for ODPs in New Zealand. Learners who successfully complete this programme are eligible to apply to register as an Operating Department Practitioner with the Health and Care Professions Council.
