All applicants should hold a degree validated by a university in the UK or a degree of an equivalent standard from outside the UK. This is the minimum qualification required to apply, although in years with high competition, only those with a good Honours degree (Grade 2.2 or above) may be considered. For applicants intending to qualify in Secondary teaching, the degree must contain a minimum of 80 credit points relevant to the subject, with at least 40 of those credits studied at SCQF Level 8 (RQF Level 5 or EQF Level 5) or above, equivalent to around two years of full-time higher education study. In addition, all applicants must have achieved qualifications in both English and Mathematics prior to application. For English, this includes a minimum of SQA Higher (Grade C) or equivalent, such as SQA Higher ESOL (Grade C), SQA NC (SCQF Level 6) Communications 4 and Literature 1, GCSE English Language and Literature (Grade C/4 or above in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland), Irish Leaving Certificate Higher English at Grade H4 or above, or an appropriate Higher Education Access course. For Mathematics, acceptable qualifications include a minimum of SQA National 5 (Grade C) or equivalent, such as SQA Intermediate 2 (Grade C or above), Standard Grade Credit (Grade 1 or 2), GCSE Mathematics (Grade 4 or above in England, Grade C or above in Wales, Grade C/Level 4 or above in Northern Ireland), Irish Leaving Certificate Mathematics at Level 4, or an appropriate Higher Education Access course. Applicants currently working toward these qualifications may still be considered, provided they achieve them prior to the course start date in August 2024.
*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
