Summary
The BA (Hons) Photography Programme delivered in the studios and darkrooms at the Park Lane Campus, as well as in the University Centre. By this stage of your career you should have a focus of what area of photography you want to pursue. Whatever this passion is, the course will steer you towards to your own career trajectory. Current staff have a wide range of photographic experience, from documentary and portraiture, fine art and fashion, to more commercially orientated work. Staff will assist you with ideas and allow you to build a final major project. The course comprises of five modules with photographic concepts are at the heart of the course. The outcomes for these include exhibitions and portfolio reviews. It is assumed that you have understood the basics of camera functions during your Foundation Degree or HND and this course will push your critical understanding of what a photographic project is and knowledge of other practitioners. The teaching on the course is front loaded which means that the core of the teaching takes placing the first semester with supportive tutorials guiding you through the second semester; this allows you to become an autonomous learner which is supported by tutorials, critiques and visiting lecturers. We feel that students should exhibit their work as much as possible, with students taking part in at least two exhibitions during their year of study. The BA Students work together to produce a mini-students photographic festival in May. The course offers a number of visiting speakers throughout the year, these have included Ian Beesley, Murat Özkasim, Juno Calypso, Danny North, Simon Roberts and John Angerson.Staff who deliver on the course is a mixture of academic and practicing photographers. All staff are currently working on and exhibiting projects. The course runs several trips each academic year, these have included: London, Paris, Budapest, Berlin and New York City. The focus of these trips is to see engaging works at a range of galleries as well as to see and photograph different cultures. We also visit Art and Photography festivals including the Liverpool Look Festival and Derby Format Festival.
