Summary
Develop the art of creating and controlling the total sonic environment of live performance - one of the most rapidly evolving of the theatre disciplines. This practical course focuses on theatre sound and music, and sees students learn through working on realised projects. Students work with state-of-the-art equipment and software, acquiring core technical and theoretical understandings that will carry forward into their career. Performance technologies, including computer-based show control, audio recording, waveform editing, digital mixing and audio networking, are used throughout the course. For students interested in composition, Central’s Sound Design Laboratories will allow experimentation with a variety of sound generation and sequencing software. Students will also be able to work with machine interoperability and the aesthetic relationships between sound and light design. Throughout the course students learn technical, communication, group-work and problem solving skills by working as part of a collaborative company of performance-makers. This course leads to the qualification of BA (Hons) Theatre Practice. The criteria for this exceptional award are a combination of merit (promise/ability shown in application form and at audition/interview) and financial hardship. As Central is actively seeking to increase access to our world-class training, preference will be shown to applicants from countries and backgrounds which have historically been underrepresented among Central’s student body. We especially welcome applications from countries in the Global South. All eligible applicants will be automatically considered for an award based on merit. You will be notified by email on 30 April 2021 if you have been nominated to go forward to the second stage of the Scholarship application. Those applicants will be sent an email with guidance notes a link to the online application form.

Value of scholarship
There is a total of £150,000 in the fund. Awards will have a minimum value of £1,000 each. Undergraduate students will have funds paid directly to them for living expenses. Postgraduate students will have the funds allocated
