What will I learn?

We seek graduate students with the highest credentials. We expect much of the students that we accept. All students must be able to communicate effectively and contribute meaningfully to teaching. Ethics and professionalism are extremely important aspects of our graduate education and training. Our department’s legacy lies in the hands of those we graduate. The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering offers a graduate degree program which is at the forefront of the application of engineering principles to solve problems of agricultural production, utilization, environmental control, and biological systems and to improve the quality of life. Students may concentrate study in one of the faculty research interest areas listed below. Supporting course work includes: mathematics computer science statistics engineering mechanics chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering animal science crop sciences food science and other appropriate fields. The Ph.D. degree includes at least 32 hours of coursework and 32 hours of dissertation research. Candidates take a preliminary examination once they have completed the required coursework and prepared a research proposal. After the dissertation is completed, the student defends it in a final oral examination. Ph.D. graduates are typically employed in academia, governmental agencies, industry, or consulting firms.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must have earned at least a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college in the United States or a comparable degree from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad. A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (A=4.0), or comparable GPA for an international applicant, for last two years of undergraduate study is a minimum requirement for admission.

IELTS (academic exam) - 6.5 to 7.0
