Public Health is the science of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting the health of people and communities through organized efforts to educate, develop policy, conduct scientific research and regulate health systems. The Public Health Associates degree offers a versatile education that examines emerging issues in public health, the social and behavioral aspects of preventing disease, environmental health concepts, the changing U.S. health care system, and the monitoring of diseases in the community. The Associates degree program was designed to seamlessly transition to the University of Cincinnati Interdisciplinary Bachelors of Public Health degree.A degree major in public health provides students an understanding of the principles of public health as well as emerging issues in public health that affect our global society. This program of study integrates key aspects of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through people, organizations, and community. There are many facets of public health – from improving access to healthcare, controlling infectious diseases, reducing environmental hazards to working toward decreasing substance abuse. Students can select from a pool of public health elective courses, with the assistance of an academic advisor, to create a personalized learning plan.
