What will I learn?

Offered through the nationally accredited Lionel Hampton School of Music, this major is a popular choice for students who want futures as professional performers, composers or teachers. The broad liberal arts degree also prepares students for careers in business, law, medicine and other fields. As a music major, you will learn by performing, creating, analyzing and listening to music. You will refine your talent as a musician through intensive training and build a strong foundation in the humanities and social sciences, with courses in theory, history and performance. Students must audition for admission into this program.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have 2.5 on a 4.0 GPA scale is required from secondary school. They must meet criteria for admission to university level study in home country. They should also satisfy the following English language requirements:

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) minimum score of 525 on the paper test or 70 on the Internet-based test
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) minimum score of 6.0
  • Pearson (PTE) Academic score of 48
  • ELS Language Centers, pass of Level 112
  • Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English), pass
  • Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English), pass
  • Cambridge International "O" Levels, pass
  • English proficiency demonstration is waived for any applicant who has a previous degree at an accredited U.S. institution

Priority Application Dates – Fall: May 1; Spring: October 1; Summer: March 15
