The Geology concentration is the most rigorous degree path in the Geological Sciences and is designed primarily for students wishing to pursue MS and Ph.D. degrees in Geosciences after graduation. The comprehensive geology curriculum, combined with support courses in allied STEM fields, ensures the required coursework for graduate programs while also preparing graduates for any career in geosciences. Students receive a solid foundation of geosciences through a combination of laboratory and field-based education and apply their skills in various careers, including forensic science, environmental consulting, education, and government agencies. A first-year student is someone who has never been enrolled in any college or university, international or domestic. The admissions office reserves the right to request students to submit additional proof of English proficiency, even if they meet the above-listed requirements. Sub-scores for different sections within the examination are also considered in determining whether a student has a strong enough command of the English language in order to succeed at Salem State University.
