Interested in helping people plan for their financial futures Take a look at the personal financial planning major at Western Michigan University, where you’ll gain the knowledge of valuation of securities, insurance, estate and retirement planning, and employee benefits.Nationally recognized by Financial Planning Magazine and certified by the Certified Financial Planner Board, this program will help you gain a strong foundation in financial planning. You will have the opportunity to apply to manage a portfolio of 2.5 million of real money in our Greenleaf Trust Trading Room, under the direction of an experienced money manager, in our Student Managed Investment Fund course, with additional opportunities to prepare for the Series 7 exam and earn Bloomberg certification.As a personal financial planning major at Western Michigan University, you will learn interviewing and analytical skills to help you become financially savvy for your future career. You should be passionate about working with people and willing to fine tune and develop your communication skills to work with clients. Upon successful completion of the recommended coursework, you will be eligible to sit for the CFP exam.

Entry requirements

For international students

A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).

Minimum English proficiency test scores:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 71 iBT

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: 6.0

Pearson Test of English, Academic Module (PTE): 48

Michigan English Test (MET): 48

Application deadlines:

Fall: June 15; Spring: October 15
