The three-year program is designed for professionals currently working in or with K-12 school systems who want to take the next step in their careers. This includes those who wish to become school system superintendents or other district central office leaders, as well as individuals committed to leading schools and other organizations in ways that support high-quality teaching and learning at scale.

All L4L students work toward common leadership standards while collaborating with each other and faculty to tailor their work to their own career goals, which may include State of Washington Superintendent or Program Administrator certification. Upon completion of the program, students earn a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.).

Engage With Real-World Educational Challenges

The Leadership for Learning program builds your capacity to lead no matter what your educational role. Develop into an effective, systems-focused leader by engaging with a rigorous, standards-based curriculum that focuses on real-world challenges or “problems of practice.” In addition to regular coursework, you’ll complete capstone portfolio projects and field-based internships that reinforce the program’s emphasis on learning by doing.

Experience Cohort Learning With a Personal Focus

L4L students form strong bonds with their cohort group, alumni and the program faculty, which includes scholars publishing cutting-edge research and practitioners working in the field. We personalize each individual’s experience within the cohort by maximizing student choice in program assignments. Students develop annual assessments of their own leadership capacity, set goals for their professional growth and pursue experiences that stretch their leadership.
