36 credits, including dissertation research, must be from Iowa State University

Up to 10 credits of dual listed professional courses may be applied as major graduate credit

The Program of Study (POS) Committee may require additional courses

Area(s) of Specialization (will appear on all ISU transcripts after graduation): Anatomy; Cell Biology; Pharmacology; Physiology

Learning Goals that students in this program are expected to meet include:

Demonstrate knowledge of anatomical structures, their functions and their regional and systemic relationships with one another.

Demonstrate knowledge of physiological systems, their regulation and, the functional units of organs and their microscopic anatomy.

Demonstrate knowledge of pharmacological principles, classes of therapeutic molecules and how they regulate cellular processes.

Demonstrate knowledge of sub cellular components, their cellular function and their role in disease processes.

Form testable hypothesis and articulate research objectives that further scientific knowledge in the field.

Clearly and accurately communicate research findings orally and in writing.

Entry requirement for international students

Must hold a BS degree in the biological or physical sciences OR a DVM degree from an accredited institution in the US or an approved institution overseas.

Highly recommended undergraduate courses: anatomy, physiology, cellular and molecular biology, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, and calculus.

GPA equivalent to 3.0/4.0 or above

The minimum scores accepted by the Graduate College are:

Pearson Test of English (PTE): 53
Duo Lingo English Test: 105 (only approved through Fall 2021 admission cycle)
