Our Ph.D. program in Family and Consumer Sciences Education will provide you with the training and qualifications you need for a faculty position, especially in Family and Consumer Sciences Education or teacher preparation. Academic requirements for the family and consumer sciences education Ph.D. program include:

60 credit hours of coursework and 12 hours of dissertation

60 hours include:

21-hour specialization in family and consumer sciences education
15-hour research component
18-hour emphasis designed to address professional goals
6-hour of electives

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students who have already earned a Bachelor's degree and wish to continue their education at the Doctoral level. English Language Scores: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - The minimum TOEFL score required to show proof of English Proficiency is 550 (paper-based version) or 79 (internet-based version); International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) - The minimum IELTS required score is an overall band score of 6.5 on the Academic version; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - The minimum required PTE Academic score is 60; Cambridge C2 Proficiency Test (Cambridge CPE) – The minimum required Cambridge CPE grade is a score of 180 or above. Cambridge C1 Advanced Proficiency Test (CambridgeCAE) – The minimum required Cambridge CAE grade is a score of 175 or above.

For international students

A master's degree is required for admission to the doctoral program.
