UNT's Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics is awarded for superior accomplishment, the attainment of a high level of scholarship and the demonstrated ability, through independent study and research, to carry out an original investigation and present the results of such investigation.The Department of Mathematics at the University of North Texas provides a collaborative, open and academically stimulating climate for graduate study. The Ph.D. degree allows you to develop competence in several major areas of mathematics and prepares you for intensive study and research in a specialized area.In addition to mathematical training, you’ll have opportunities to develop advanced instructional skills. These opportunities include a comprehensive training course for teaching fellows focusing on all types of instructional issues. Almost all full-time graduate students are supported as teaching fellows or assistants. Teaching fellows also are eligible for 1.5 months of summer salary teaching or working in the Math Lab.
