What will I learn?

Indiana State University offers the online Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) with a family nurse practitioner concentration for students who are interested in advancing their education or careers in the health and human services profession. The online master's degree in nursing is a 47-50 credit program that varies in length depending on the culminating experience course selected at the conclusion of the program. All courses are offered online. Clinical placements will be arranged by the student in the state(s) they are licensed. On-campus visits are not required. The program can be completed in 2½-3 years with part-time study; however students are required to complete the program in 3-5 years. Graduates of this program are qualified specialists having the expertise to utilize a comprehensive approach to meet diversified and holistic health needs. Knowledge and skills attained through this program include an emphasis in the following areas: Health Promotion, Health Protection, Disease Prevention, and Treatment, Practitioner-Patient Relationship, Teaching-Coaching Function, Professional Role, Managing and Negotiating Health Care Delivery Systems, Monitoring and Ensuring the Quality of Health Care Practice, Cultural Competence

Entry requirements

For international students

Hold a baccalaureate degree granted by a regionally accredited institution (for international students, a degree granted by a recognized institution).

Have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.7 in all undergraduate course work; or have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in the last 60 credits of undergraduate course work; or have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in the applicant’s major field of study; or have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in all courses taken at the graduate level.

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL with minimum score of 550 (paper examination)
  • TOEFL with minimum score of 79 (internet-based examination)
  • TOEFL with a minimum score of 213 (computer based examination)
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 6.5
