What will I learn?

The MA in Translation & Interpreting Studies offers online professional training to students in French, German, Spanish, and Russian, and often other languages, who wish to pursue careers in the language-services industry broadly speaking, or in other fields requiring advanced professional use of a language other than English.

Credits and Courses

No credits carrying a grade below B- may be counted toward meeting the Translation and Interpreting Studies degree requirement of 30 credits.

Students choose one of three tracks in the Translation and Interpreting, MA - Professional Translation Track, Research Translation Track, and an Interpreting Track.

Professional Track

The Professional Track is designed for those interested in careers in the language-services industry, and can be completed in Arabic, French, German, Russian or Spanish to English.

Research Track

The Research Track is designed for those interested in careers in academia, and can be completed in Arabic, French, German, Russian or Spanish to English.

Interpreting Track

The Interpreting Track is designed for those interested in language-services careers focused on interpreting.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 undergraduate GPA;

English Language Proficiency: a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 83; TOEFL CBT score of 220; or IELTS score of 6.5;

Application deadlines for the TIS program are as follows:

Fall semester admission – December 15 of previous year; Spring semester admission – September 15 of previous semester.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
