Fort Hays State University (FHSU) was established in 1902 as the Western Branch of Kansas State Normal School. The original plan was to have the university’s academic programs focus on agriculture, but the university opened as a teacher’s college. Today, FHSU is a regional comprehensive public university where determined and innovative faculty and staff are committed to teaching and mentoring students in order to mold them into global citizen-leaders.
