John Jay College of Criminal Justice was established in the mid-1950s as part of a response to the increased complexity of administering and operating the New York City Police Department and maintaining good relations between police and the community. Named after the first Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court and one of the founding fathers of the United States of America, John Jay College of Criminal Justice is among the USA’s premier criminal justice institutions, bringing together students and award-winning faculty in a diverse community to engage with issues related to justice. The college offers over 30 majors, 50 minors, 13 master’s programs, and 20 certificate programs. Over 130 nationalities are represented on the college’s campus. Close to half of the college’s 60000-strong alumni are in public service in government and non-profit organizations.
