Scholarships at Flinders University

Matthew Flinders Scholarship Fund - International

Study level

Eligibility requirements

Applicants for the Scholarship must:

  • an International student living onshore in Australia; and
  • be enrolled at Flinders University; and
  • be able to demonstrate financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic

Purpose

Scholarships will be awarded to financially assist students who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic with the aim of reducing financial stress so that students can continue their studies at Flinders University.

Benefits

The scholarship amount awarded will be paid in two equal instalments. Payment will be made after the Semester 2 2020 and Semester 1 2021 census dates. Recipients will not normally be eligible for a second or subsequent Matthew Flinders Scholarship.

The number of scholarships and amount of scholarship payments will be dependent on available funds.

Selection

The Scholarship selection will be made based on greatest financial hardship/need as determined in the discretion of the Matthew Flinders Scholarship Committee based on the information contained in scholarship applications received and otherwise in accordance with the Fund’s Terms of Reference.

Value details

Each Scholarship is to be used to assist students to support the continuation of their studies at Flinders University. Each Scholarship will be valued up to AUD $2,000.

Flinders International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (FIPRS)

Eligibility requirements

  • Applicants must be a citizen of any overseas country, except New Zealand, and satisfy the University's academic entry requirements for a Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research. 
  • Applicants are required to have successfully completed at least the equivalent of an Australian First Class Hons degree(this is a four year degree with a major research project in the final year)
  • Applicants must meet the English proficiency levels set by Flinders University for international students at the time of application. Students for whom English is a foreign language will need to provide evidence of their English language competence.
  • Applicants must not hold an equivalent research higher degree qualification.  Applications are only open to students commencing a research higher degree in Australia for the first time. 
  • Applicants must not hold Australian citizenship, Australian permanent resident status or New Zealand citizenship.

Value details

In addition, a stipend provides the recipient with a generous living allowance paid at the rate of AUD $27,596 per annum (2019 rate). It is tax exempt and indexed annually.

Australian Government Research Training Program (AGRTP) Scholarship (International)

Eligibility requirements

  • Applicants must satisfy the University's academic entry requirements for a Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research.
  • Applicants are required to have successfully completed a degree at least the equivalent/comparable to an Australian First Class Hons degree(this is a four year degree with a major research project in the final year)
  • Applicants must have met the English proficiency levels set by Flinders University for international students at the time of application. Students for whom English is a foreign language will need to provide evidence of their English language competence.
  • Applicants must not hold an equivalent Higher Degree by research qualification.  Applications are only open to students commencing a Higher Degree by research in Australia for the first time. 
  • Applicants must not hold Australian citizenship, Australian permanent resident status or New Zealand citizenship.
