IELTS is English Proficiency Test required for international students from non-native English speaking nation when applying for studies in countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Singapore and even USA universities accept IELTS scores in place of TOEFL.

IELTS has four modules i.e., Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Each module is out of 7 band and scores assigned to student taking IELTS is average of all four modules taken together. A reasonably good IELTS academic score will be 6.5 bands overall out of 7 bands. The requirement of IELTS for UG level (BS Degree) is around 5.5 bands to 6.5 bands and the requirement of IELTS for Graduate level (MS or MBA Degree) is around 6.0 bands to 7.0 bands depending on country choice and university choice. It is recommended to check individual university website to know the exact IELTS score requirement.

IELTS therefore test students on Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking ability of English language which helps foreign university to understand student's language skills in English. This is important as all the courses in foreign universities are conducted in English language and students need to understand the instructions and the lectures to follow the course.
