Students studying in UK

Engineering as a major is a popular choice among the Indian students who go abroad to study. There are a good number of leading universities in the UK which offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various branches of engineering.  But most Indian students opt for the smaller lesser-known private colleges either because they couldn’t provide the required scores or couldn’t afford the tuition fee. It is for such students that many of the top universities offer scholarships for Engineering- these help students borrow less in the form of educational loans and eventually reduce the burden on their parents / sponsors.

Here are the scholarships a few of the leading universities in the UK offer Indian students:

University of Birmingham

The University offers engineering scholarships for international students at the undergraduate level. The value of scholarships ranges between £1,500 to £3,000.

Cambridge University

MPhil students applying to Cambridge for engineering courses are eligible for the Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust scholarship awarded by an independent organisation. This award is specially for students taking up an Engineering course for Sustainable Development, Material Sciences and Metallurgy. Apart from these, there are a few other scholarships offered to engineering students at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels. These scholarships cover the college tuition fees and maintenance of around £13,500.

University of Nottingham

The University of Nottingham offers undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships to international students registering on degree programmes offered by the Faculty of Engineering. An award of £1,500 is offered to international students starting an undergraduate honours degree programme in engineering in 2012. This scholarship is open to all students pursuing different branches within engineering including Architecture and Built Environment; Civil Engineering; Chemical and Environmental Engineering; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; and Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering.

The best part about this scholarship is that if you receive the award in your first year (2012), you will also be entitled to the award of £1,500 in your second, third, and fourth years subject to conditions. This scholarship will be paid automatically, you do not need to apply for it.

The Dean of Engineering Research Scholarship for International Excellence 2012 is the scholarship offered to Postgraduate students. Under this scheme, ten full tuition fee scholarships worth up to £15, 720 per year are awarded, while ten full tuition fee scholarships are provided with stipend for the most outstanding candidates only. Stipends are worth £700 per month. To be eligible for this scholarship you need to have a first class degree or MSc with distinction (or international equivalent).
