UK visa process: What takes place at the visa application centre
Now that you have all the documents, cleared the medical examination and paid the application fee you are halfway near your goal and it is time to visit the visa application centre for an interview. To visit the visa application centre you book an appointment online and upon confirmation you can visit. To enter the visa application centre there are few protocols and regulations to follow and it is very important that comply with the security staff and prepared before you enter the facility.

What takes place at the Visa Application Centre?

To finish your application process, you must go to one of the visa application centres nearest to you:
  • South and North Mumbai
  • Pune
  • New Delhi
  • Ahmedabad
  • Bangalore
  • Chandigarh
  • Chennai
  • Cochin
  • Hyderabad
  • Jalandhar
  • Kolkata

You need to make an appointment before attending the visa application centre. You need to book the appointment online after you complete your application form. The only exemption is if you would like to use the premium lounge, fast track or prime time facilities.

Booking an appointment 

You and your dependants have to complete the visa application form online and at the same time, you are required to make an online appointment to attend a visa application centre to submit your visa application. Print your visa application form and carry it together with all supporting documentation, to your interview at the visa application centre.

General Information

Print the email confirming the details of your appointment and take it with you to the visa application centre. You should reach the centre five minutes before your appointment. The appointment should be booked only in your name and no one else can attend your scheduled appointment.
When you are at the centre, you will need to provide your biometric information, which includes a photograph and a digital scan of your fingerprints.
In case of a family application, every applicant who is submitting a visa application must attend the centre in person. Children less than 5 years should be present accompanied by an adult but are not required to provide their biometric information. 

The Visa Application Centre

Unless you are excused from enrolling your biometric information, you must attend an interview at one of the visa application centres near to you as part of your application.

The Interview

Mostly, the staff will decide based on the submitted documents with the application. In some cases, applicants may be asked to attend an interview or attend a telephonic interview.  If asked to attend an interview the online appointment will be considered and the students will be intimated about the interview. According to the British High Commission’s service standards for processing of non-settlement applications, 90% are processed in 3 weeks, 98% are processed in 6 weeks and 100% are processed in 12 weeks of the application date. For the interview, you will:

Security at the Visa Application Centre

The people who are admitted to the visa application centre are:
  • The applicant
  • An adult, if the applicant is a child
  • A carer, if the applicant is differently abled
  • An interpreter, if the applicant is hearing-impaired
For security purposes, the following items are not allowed inside the centre:
  • Cameras, audio/video cassettes, compact discs, MP3's MP4’s, Ipods, Ipads, tablets floppies, laptops, or any other storage devices or electronic gadgets.
  • Only one plastic bag containing your application related papers would be permitted. Sealed envelopes or packages, travel bags, back packs, briefcases, suitcases, leather, jute or cloth bags and zip folders are not allowed.
  • Matchboxes, spray cans, lighters, fuel etc.
  • Sharp objects like scissors, pen/pocket/jack knives or nail filers
  • Weapons or weapon like objects or explosive material of any kind
  • At the discretion of security staff any item may be prohibited
Please note that the visa application centre has no facilities to store prohibited items.
