Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible you must:

  • be an International student who is completing or has completed Years 11 and 12 in Australia
  • be a student commencing University for the first time in trimester 2 2019
  • have not undertaken/commenced any tertiary study (Bachelor award), with the exception of those undertaken as part of year 11-12 studies (eg. enhanced studies program) and
  • have applied to commence at Griffith University in trimester 2 2019
  • meet the eligibility criteria for a degree program and receive and accept an admission offer
  • achieve a result which places you in the range of the OP band 1-3, including International Baccalaureate (IB) and interstate equivalents or an equivalent Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR). Bonus ranks do not apply.
  • current year 12 school leavers: You will also be required to upload your OP/ATAR/IB results

The Personal Statement should be between 250 and 500 words.

Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

The Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarships (GUPRS) provides a living allowance paid as a fortnightly stipend, and a relocation allowance. Sick leave, maternity leave and leave of absence provisions also apply. This scholarship does not cover tuition fees.

To be eligible for a GUPRS, an applicant must

  • be commencing or enrolled in a Higher Degree Research (HDR) program at Griffith University.
  • Applicants must not be receiving income from another source to support their general living costs that provides a benefit greater than 75% of the GUPRS stipend. Income unrelated to the candidate’s HDR program, or income received for the candidate’s HDR program but not for the purposes of supporting general living costs, is not to be taken into account.

University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka and Griffith University PhD Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

  • Applicants must meet candidate eligibility requirements as prescribed by Griffith in accordance with their rules and policies.
  • Applicants must fulfil all relevant academic entry requirements, including the prescribed level of English language proficiency for PhD admission at Griffith University.
  • Applicants are required to hold a bachelor degree with first-class honours or second-class honours (Division A), or a masters degree incorporating a significant research component, from a recognised institution; or equivalent.
  • Applicants must also meet the selection criteria set out by UGC.


If required, Griffith will consider providing an additional six months tuition scholarship and living allowance scholarship to enable candidates to complete the degree. These requests will be considered on a case by case basis and will be subject to the satisfactory completion of the Thesis and Candidature Review milestone.

Applicants nominated by UGC will apply for admission to Griffith University.

Griffith will assess all applications in accordance with PhD admission requirements, including academic performance and English language proficiency.
