Eligibility requirements

The Scholarship shall be open to competition among applicants who:
• are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, or holders of an Australian permanent visa
• are admitted as an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework student at the Cairns campus of James Cook University
• are enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit points in the year of application
• have obtained a Course GPA of 4.0 or above
• are in financial need.

Application details

Applicants wanting to apply for this scholarship must attach the following documents:
• a copy of their birth certificate, passport or permanent visa
• an unofficial copy of their academic record from James Cook University or any other academic institution
• A written statement (maximum 500 words) addressing the following criteria:
› Why you would like to be involved in the Cowan Grant Experiential Learning opportunity?
› Describe the international or domestic learning experience or volunteer placement project you would like to undertake, including the proposed location, timing and duration.
› How do you think the international or domestic experience will benefit you personally and professionally in the future, and how will it benefit people in the destination country/location?
• one character reference from a JCU academic staff member outlining the applicant’s suitability for the scholarship
• documented evidence of financial circumstances
• a cost estimate of the learning experience
• any other supporting documentation that would assist the Selection Committee in developing an opinion as to the merit of the application.

Leo and Mabel Barnett Travel Bursary

Study level

Eligibility requirements

The Leo and Mabel Barnett Travel Bursary shall be open to competition among candidates who:
* are domestic students, i.e. Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens and holders of a permanent visa; and
* are enrolled in an undergraduate degree and have received a grade of Credit or above in one of the following subjects, FR3221, FR3322 or FR2202; and
* wish to travel to a French speaking country to undertake further French studies; and
* wish to enrol for at least one semester’s study at the overseas institution; and
* have not already received any other travel scholarship, bursary or grant.

Application details

Applicants will attach to the official form, where appropriate:
* a copy of their academic record from James Cook University and/or a certified copy from any other academic institution; and;
* a certified copy of your birth certificate, passport or permanent visa;
* no more than three references attesting to the applicant’s good character and/or suitability to receive the bursary; and
* their curriculum vitae; and
* a statement outlining their planned course of study at the institution in a French speaking country, including planned subjects and how this will benefit their study at JCU; and
* a statement from the relevant JCU Academic Advisor and/or the lecturer in charge of French indicating that the subjects taken at the other institution are suitable; and
* details on the overseas institution; and
* a proof of enrolment or acceptance at the institution which must commence within one year of bursary receipt; and
* a proof of their JCU credit approval for the study; and
* any other supporting documentation that would assist the Selection Committee in developing an opinion as to the merit of the application.

Julia Cooper Memorial Wildlife Research Bursary

Eligibility requirements

If all the below statements describe students and their current situation, they can apply for this scholarship. Must be an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent visa holder; enrolled in an honours or masters course studying marine or terrestrial ecology; and will be undertaking fieldwork in North Queensland, or that has a clear relevance to North Queensland.

Applicants wanting to apply for this scholarship must attach the following documents: a copy of their academic record from James Cook University; certified copy of their academic record from any other academic institution; their curriculum vitae; written statement of not more than two pages a short statement from the applicant’s research supervisor about the applicant’s ability to complete the research; statement acknowledging that a bursary recipient will be required to submit a short summary of research outcomes which will be posted in the website; or any other supporting documentation that would assist the Selection Committee in developing an opinion as to the merit of the application.

JCU Access Fund

If all the below statements describe you and your current situation, you can apply for the JCU Access Fund:

  1. I am an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder
  2. I am in need of financial support
  3. I am or will be enrolled in my first or second calendar year of an undergraduate diploma or bachelor course
  4. I have not previously completed a bachelor degree (or it is a prerequisite to my current course)
  5. I am or will be enrolled full-time

Application details

Applications must be submitted on the official form no later than the date set by the Selection Committee for the year in which the award is to be made.

Applicants must attach to the official form, where appropriate:
* a copy of all supporting documentation, as indicated on the application form; and
* any other supporting documentation that would assist the Selection Committee in assessing the merit of the application.

Applications submitted without the relevant documentation will not be considered.

The applicant authorises the Selection Committee to make such enquiries as to the applicant’s suitability to receive the award, which includes authorisation for the Selection Committee to examine the applicant’s academic record.
