To be eligible to apply for the scholarship an applicant must:

  • Be an International student who has not previously studied in an academic programme at Lincoln University
  • Meet the academic and English language requirements for admission to their chosen programme at Lincoln University
  • Meet all necessary immigration requirements to study in New Zealand
  • Not hold any other scholarship.

Selection Criteria

The scholarship will be awarded based on Academic excellence

Special Selection Criteria

  • Must be a new to Lincoln University International Student who is planning to enrol in a Bachelor's degree.
  • Must not be in receipt of any other scholarship, and should meet all Lincoln University entrance requirements to any Lincoln University Bachelor degree programme.

Tenure

The scholarship shall be tenable for two consecutive academic semesters

Lincoln University International Pathway Merit Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

Scholarships will be paid to successful students' Lincoln University Tuition Fees account upon confirmed enrolment in one of the following qualifications:

  • Certificate in University Studies, or
  • Diploma in University Studies (three-semester pathway), or
  • Diploma in University Studies (two-semester pathway).

To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, you must: 

  • Be an international student who has not previously studied in an academic programme at Lincoln University
  • Meet the academic and English language requirements for admission to their chosen programme at Lincoln University

Reserve Bank of New Zealand University Scholarships

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand is offering two scholarships each year to students who are majoring in economics or finance and who are entering their Honours or Masters or final year of PhD study. An offer of employment will be an essential part of the scholarship.

Vernon Willey Trust Fellowship

This Fellowship has been established by the Vernon Willey Trust for research and education relating to the production, processing and marketing of wool and general development and improvement of the sheep and wool industry and the promotion of this primary industry for the national benefit and advantage.

Special Selection Criteria

Lamb Quality Biomarker Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

This scholarship is funded from the Catalyst programme "Identification, evaluation and detection of biomarkers for lamb meat quality." We are looking for someone who has completed at least a Bachelor's degree with Honours in data science, or biology with a strong emphasis on data analysis, to work on a project using cutting edge analytical technology to understand meat physiology. The project will use mass spectrometry fingerprinting to discover novel markers of meat quality, and the student will use tools such as R and Simca to build models to discover the meat quality markers. The skills gained will be highly transferable for both industry and future research. The project will be carried out as a collaboration between Lincoln University and AgResearch.

The total value of the scholarship shall be a NZ$20,000pa stipend (NZ$17,000 in fortnightly payments over one year and NZ$3,000 on award of the Masters degree) and an NZ$8,000 contribution to tuition fees. Applicants must be eligible for an MSc (Biochemistry) by research at Lincoln University.

Lincoln University Doctoral Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

The scholarships were established to provide opportunities for students to pursue PhD study and research at Lincoln University. Applicants must be new to the Lincoln University Doctoral programme at the commencement of the Semester immediately following the award OR have registered into the Lincoln University Doctoral programme no more than six months prior to the closing date of applications.

The scholarship will be awarded based on the following criteria: (1) Academic Merit. A minimum grade point average equating to an A- (80%) average is required in order to be eligible to apply for the scholarship. (2) Research or other relevant experience.

Tenure

Every scholarship shall be tenable for a maximum of three years from the commencement date of the tenure of the scholarship, unless the candidate is already registered for a PhD.

Manning Seed Award

Eligibility requirements

Eligibility:

(1) The scholarship shall be open to people who are eligible to undertake full time postgraduate research study at Lincoln University into any issue associated with seed science and seed technology in New Zealand.

(2) A scholarship may be awarded to a person who is not eligible to register as a full time research student at Lincoln University provided he or she becomes eligible to so register by 1 March in the year following the awards, or by such other date as may be determined by the Selection Committee in a particular case.

(3) If a candidate awarded a scholarship under 3(2) above does not become eligible to register for a research degree at Lincoln University by 1 March or by the date determined under the provisions of 3(2) above, then the award will lapse.

Selection Criteria

The criteria for selection shall be

(1) Academic merit.

(2) The importance of the proposed research to seed science for the benefit of New Zealand.

Number/Value: One or more scholarships may be available in any year, the value of which shall be determined annually by the board of the Lincoln University Foundation.

A PhD scholarship shall be tenable for a maximum of three years from the commencement date of the tenure of the scholarship, unless the candidate is already registered for a PhD as stated in 6 (3) below. The current value of a PhD scholarship is NZ $25,000 per annum. The tenure of the scholarship for a Masters or Honours degree candidate shall be for a maximum of one calendar year and shall begin at the commencement of the semester immediately following the award. The current value is NZ $10,000 pa.

Gordon Williams Postgraduate Scholarship in Ecological Sciences

(1) Scholarships will be open to any post-graduate student from Lincoln University who is a New Zealand citizen or has been resident in New Zealand for a period of not less than three years at any time during his or her lifetime.  

(2) Scholarships will be open to candidates who are eligible to register as candidates for postgraduate study (research only), PhD or the thesis year of a Masters degree.

(3) A scholarship may be awarded to a person who is not eligible to register as a candidate with Lincoln University provided he or she becomes eligible to so register by 1 March in the year following the awards, or by such other date as may be determined by the Vice Chancellor in a particular case.

(4) If a candidate awarded a scholarship under 3(3) above does not become eligible to register at Lincoln University by 1 March or by the date determined under the provisions of 3(3) above, then the award will lapse.

Selection Criteria

(1) The candidate shall be undertaking or planning to undertake an area of research which is aligned with the focus and requirements relating to sheep research as stated in the John W & Carrie McLean Trust Scholarship.

(2) The proposed research area or topic has sufficient scope, complexity, or depth commensurate with research at the required level.

(3) The candidate must meet all of Lincoln University’s academic selection criteria for admission into the relevant programme.
