The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) provides students with a fully accredited UK education in Malaysia. UNM opened in 2000 at the invitation of the Malaysian Government as the first British university campus in Malaysia. Built on decades of experience and expertise, the Malaysia campus has since continuously been recognised internationally for its academic excellence.
The University of Nottingham continuously ranks within the top 100 universities in the world (QS World University Rankings 2020). It’s a research-intensive institution led by inspiring academic staff who are experts in their fields.
The University provides student with an outstanding educational experience. Students are taught by leading global academic staff using the latest in teaching and research methodologies. Students at the University graduate with market ready skills that are recognised by employers, with many graduates going on to become leaders in their respective professions.
Around 5,500 students from more than 85 countries call UNM home. Students make lifelong friends and invaluable contacts with others from all over the globe. Students can take advantage of the many on-campus academic facilities, as well as the numerous non-academic amenities such as the extensive sports complex, a swimming pool, over 65 clubs and societies and the Student’s Association.
UNM offer students a wide range of programmes covering foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate study in areas such as: business and management, engineering (chemical, environmental, civil and mechanical), computer science, psychology, international relations, education, biomedical sciences, media and performing arts.
The University campus is based in Semenyih, which is under 45 minutes away from downtown Kuala Lumpur, one of Asia’s most exciting cities. It is set among 125 acres of scenic green land, surrounded by scenic hillside and nature trails. Multicultural and friendly Semenyih has a low cost of living compared to most Malaysian cities.
The long history of high-quality teaching and research consistently produces the best graduates in Malaysia and internationally. The graduates have among the highest employment outcomes in Malaysia. 90% of undergraduate and 96% of postgraduate students who graduated and took the survey in 2019, had secured employment or continued their studies 6 months after graduating.

Students can take part in this employability award to help them stand out in the graduate job market. It’s for undergraduates who partake in extra-curricular activities, where they can further develop their skills, enhance their degree transcripts and add to their CVs.
UNM has two academic faculties which hosts a number of schools and departments:
Courses at the University’s Malaysia Campus have the same curriculum as those taught in the UK. The University of Nottingham awards the same degree certificates to both students studying in Nottingham and Malaysia.
Many degrees at UNM are accredited by professional bodies including the Association of MBAs, AACSB, the UK Engineering Council and the British Computer Society.
UNM understands it is a difficult time and is providing continued support to current students and future applicants. It is working hard to ensure the health and safety of the University community, following advice from the World Health Organisation and the Ministries of Education and Health in Malaysia. A task force has been set up to assess the situation around COVID-19.

Since 30 March, the University of Nottingham Malaysia has been teaching our 5,500 current students online.
UNM’s approach is to provide lecture materials (slides, recordings, readings) in advance of the scheduled class. The live class is an interactive discussion of the lecture materials. During the session students break into small groups using online private channels. Students can deliver live presentations to the class or participate in Q and A session led by the lecturer.
This is also known as “flipped classroom” or a learner-centred model. More time is spent in class on problem-solving and team-based collaboration. This method was first developed at Harvard University in 1997.
“Online teaching is beneficial in a way that students can enjoy the flexibility of learning anytime and anywhere, especially during this pandemic period of Covid-19. Easy instructions are given to access to online classes. I feel like online teaching gave students a comfortable space to raise any questions on the chat line which is quite helpful.”
“There have been guides posted to provide technical support for students that are less tech-savvy further reassures students that the University is in full control of the situation and are not ignorant to potential problems that may be faced by students. “

There are several UNM scholarships available that reward high-achieving and deserving students.
This includes:
Open to students applying to a foundation or undergraduate programme, the HAS offers a one-year 25% tuition fee reduction. To be eligible, students must meet the academic criteria, and any specific criteria for their chosen programme. The scholarship is available on an automatic basis.
Open to students progressing to their next year of undergraduate study at UNM, the Dean’s Excellence Scholarship offers a 25% tuition fee reduction. It rewards the highest-achieving students at the end of each academic year.

There are academic and English language requirements for entry to UNM. However, the University encourages speculative applicants from those from other backgrounds/qualifications. Submit an enquiry to know more about this.
Generally, prospective undergraduates need BBB–BBC at A Level, 28–30 IB Diploma points, or equivalent. Some courses have specific requirements directly related to the subject area.
Generally, international students will need (or equivalent):
English language tests must have been taken within the last two years.
UNM has Self-Accrediting Status, granted by the Ministry of Education through the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and the UK Quality Assurance Agency reported “UNM provides a well-developed environment for study with high quality facilities and education. “
In March 2020, the Ministry of Education’s Department of Higher Education renewed UNM’s MyRA® 5-star rating. UNM is the only foreign branch campus to have received consecutive MyRA 5-star ratings in Malaysia.
The MyRA® rating is conducted each year and looks at a range of indicators across major universities in the country. Indicators include the quantity of research, portfolio of innovation work and on-campus research facilities.
As well as having access to the world-class teaching facilities, students are supported by over 270 academic staff who are leaders in their academic fields. Many have worked in industry or business settings and support students to develop not only their academic knowledge but the ability to apply what they’ve learnt to real world challenges. Students are taught through a mix of seminars, lectures, tutorials and practical sessions and are also encouraged to spend time studying in groups and independently to develop their research skills.
The University is a research-intensive institution, where key research areas include renewable energy, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence and business innovation. Academic staff have diverse skill sets and experiences, and many participate in world-changing research activity.
