MIC Doctoral Award (Renewable Annually)

Eligibility requirements

The Award entitles the holder to a subsistence bursary and a fee waiver. The decision to award the MIC Doctoral Award to a doctoral student shall be based on an evaluation of their academic merit and their potential for scholarship. This evaluation shall take account, inter alia, of the following evidence:

  • Description of the project (not more than 1,500 words)
  • Location of the project within the current state of research
  • Relative significance of the contribution that the project will make to the area
  • Methodology
  • The quality and consistency of the individual’s academic record
  • Academic references
  • Any postgraduate courses or research already undertaken or in progress
  • Publications
  • Papers delivered to conferences, seminars or societies

Moreover, the award shall be restricted to candidates with first class honours only.  It is a requirement of the award that students shall be registered for a doctoral programme at MIC or have their application prior approved.

Duration: Max of 3 Years

MIC Studentship Award

Eligibility requirements

A Studentship Award entitles the holder to a fee waiver and a subsistence bursary. The decision to award a studentship to a postgraduate student shall be based upon an evaluation of their academic merit and their potential for scholarship. This evaluation shall take account, inter alia, of the following evidence:

  • The quality and consistency of the individual’s academic record
  • Any postgraduate courses or research already undertaken or in progress
  • Description of the project (not more than 1,500 words)
  • Location of the project within the current state of research
  • Relative significance of the contribution that the project will make to the area
  • The quality and consistency of the individual’s academic record
  • Academic references
  • Publications
  • Papers delivered to conferences, seminars or societies

It is a requirement of Studentship awards that candidates shall have a second class honours grade I, with at least a first honours standard in the area in which they wish to undertake their postgraduate work and shall be registered as full-time postgraduate research students at MIC.

MIC Departmental Assistantship

Eligibility requirements

Each department / subject area is entitled to have up to five assistantships in any year, subject to College conditions.  These can be offered to postgraduate students of the department who are prepared to participate in departmental activities (tutorial / seminar / laboratory / field work / course work marking etc.) for a maximum of 130 hours in the academic year. The appropriate activity is determined by Department Heads / Course Leaders and Supervisors. An Assistantship entitles the student to a fee waiver and a subsistence bursary for the work done in the Department. Students interested in assistantships should contact the Head of the relevant department to ascertain if an assistantship is available.

Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship - BA in Early Childhood Care and Education (MI007)

Eligibility requirements

The scholarship are tenable only in Mary Immaculate College, for the First Year of a full-time primary degree programme to be undertaken at MIC, in the academic year following the Leaving Certificate Examination on which the award is based.

To be eligible to receive a scholarship, a student must have met the normal entry requirements for the degree programme in question and have been validly registered for same. A student who has previously registered for a programme leading to a degree in any third level college shall not be eligible for the award of an Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship.

Scholarship shall be awarded in order of merit in accordance with the standard scoring system for Leaving Certificate results. Only performance in the six best subjects taken at the same sitting of the Leaving Certificate will be counted.

If the holder of an Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship withdraws from the programme for which s(he) has registered, or fails to continue throughout the year to meet the attendance and other requirements for the programme, including examination entry, s(he) may be required to repay to the College the whole or part of the scholarship.

Eligibility requirements

The scholarship are tenable only in Mary Immaculate College, for the First Year of a full-time primary degree programme to be undertaken at MIC, in the academic year following the Leaving Certificate Examination on which the award is based.

To be eligible to receive a scholarship, a student must have met the normal entry requirements for the degree programme in question and have been validly registered for same. MIC will offer for competition, on the basis of results in the Irish Leaving Certificate Examination, three First Year Undergraduate Entrant Scholarships, to entrants on the B Ed in Education & Psychology programme.

The scholarship are tenable only in Mary Immaculate College, for the First Year of a full-time primary degree programme to be undertaken at MIC, in the academic year following the Leaving Certificate Examination on which the award is based.

To be eligible to receive a scholarship, a student must have met the normal entry requirements for the degree programme in question and have been validly registered for same. A student who has previously registered for a programme leading to a degree in any third level college shall not be eligible for the award of an Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship.
