NYIT First Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

Typically, students with the following criteria qualify:

  • Be a senior in high school.
  • Participated on a FIRST team.
  • Minimum high school GPA of 3.0 (on a scale up to 4.0).
  • Minimum SAT score of 1080 or ACT score of 20.
  • Apply and be admitted to NYIT as a full-time student in one of the following programs:
    • Computer Science
    • Electrical and Computer Engineering
    • Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology
    • Engineering Management
    • Information Technology
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Telecommunications Management

You do not need to have already been admitted at the time you apply for this scholarship.

Application details

  • Complete the NYIT FIRST Scholarship Application including high school transcript and SAT/ACT score report.
  • Submit a 500-word essay regarding how your FIRST experience has affected your career goals OR essay describing your FIRST involvement, co-curricular activities and any academic honors.
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from an adult mentor/coach on your FIRST team.
  • Apply by July 15

NYIT Merit Scholarships and Academic Achievement Awards

Typically, students with the following criteria qualify:

  • Be an entering first-year student.
  • Students not eligible for the President's or TK Steele Scholarship will be reviewed for these scholarships based on the strength of their application.
  • International students will be reviewed for this award if they submit SAT or ACT scores.

First-Year International Student Academic Achivement Awards

Eligibility requirements

Typically, students with the following criteria qualify:

  • International students who have not taken the SAT or ACT will be reviewed for scholarships based on the strength of their application. Consideration is given to students who have maintained a 3.2 GPA or higher. Students who submit SAT or ACT exam results will be considered for the President's, Steele, or Merit scholarships listed above as qualified.

RENEWAL CRITERIA (FOR ALL FIRST-YEAR AWARDS LISTED ABOVE)

You will be eligible to receive this scholarship for a maximum of four years (or eight semesters) of continuous full-time undergraduate enrollment at NYIT. You must satisfactorily complete 12 credits each semester with no failing or incomplete grades. You must also maintain the minimum cumulative GPA as required each semester by the scholarship and/or grant as per your catalog upon admission into NYIT. NYIT scholarships and grants are for tuition only, divided equally between fall and spring semesters. They are not applicable to summer session attendance.

Life Science Achievement Award

Typically, students with the following criteria qualify:

  • Maintain a 3.3 cumulative GPA.
  • Satisfactorily complete the classes you registered for in the previous semester.
  • Be matriculated in the B.S. in Life Sciences dual degree programs in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies.

This award is not applicable to students enrolled in the combined Life Sciences/Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree program. The award bridges the gap between your undergraduate phase and your graduate or professional phase. Full-time attendance is required.

NYIT Graduate Alumni Award

Eligibility requirements

  • This award is offered to students who hold an NYIT bachelor's or master's degree only. 
  • Student must complete their degree on the Long Island or New York City campus of NYIT.
  • This award is not applicable to students enrolled in the BS/DO, BS/DPT, BS/MSOT, or BS/MSPA joint-degree undergraduate/graduate programs.
  • This award is not applicable to students with tuition remission or tuition exchange or for students who take classes at an already discounted tuition rate.
  • This award is not applicable to students receiving a second bachelor's degree at NYIT.
  • This application does not guarantee an award. This award is subject to fund availability.

Complete and submit a NYIT Graduate Alumni Award application annually.

Allotted CAN $1,000 tuition-only credit for every three credits, up to CAN $6,000 per year (CAN $3,000 per semester)

Greenwald Environmental Technology Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

Newly-admitted students in the Environmental Technology and Sustainability, M.S. or the Energy Management, M.S. program will have an opportunity to apply for the Professor Stanley M. Greenwald endowed scholarship.

Personal Skills and Qualifications Statement should include:

  • Previous graduate and undergraduate education including relevant courses and required environmental design projects.
  • Professional technical work experience including internships.
  • Technical publications and presentations at conferences and meetings.
  • Extracurricular activities including volunteer positions.
  • Certifications including OSGA, LEED etc.
  • Areas of interest including but not limited to air quality, climate change, waste management, renewable energy, life cycle analysis, water management, green constructions, environmental laws and regulations among others.

Application details

To apply, students should email their Personal Skills and Qualifications Statement. Spring admits will have until December 1, and fall admits will have until July 1 to submit their application, and will be notified by January 1/August 1.

Gender Wage Gap Scholarship

The Gender Wage Gap Scholarship is renewable each semester, as long as you meet full-time academic standing, the scholarship requirements, and submit an annual application. Graduate Scholar Award (GSA)

Eligibility requirements

This award recognizes the talents of entering graduate students who have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement. It consists of up to CAN $3,000 per-year tuition-only credit for a maximum of three years (six semesters) of continuous full-time enrollment (nine credits). Proration may be available for applicants taking less than nine graduate level credits per semester, but you must register for at least three graduate level credits per semester for this proration. In addition, this scholarship applies only to fall and spring semesters and is not applicable to graduate courses that are offered at a discounted tuition rate.

Typically, students with the following criteria qualify:

  • Be accepted to a matriculated graduate degree program.
  • Have earned a bachelor’s degree with a 3.3 CGPA.
    * Please note that scholarships are awarded based on your GPA at the time of application. If your final, official GPA is higher than when you applied, the Office of Admissions will reconsider scholarship awards up until the beginning of the semester.
  • If your program requires a GRE, then you must have earned a high enough combined score on the verbal and quantitative sections as determined by your academic department.
  • M.B.A. applicants must have a minimum GMAT score of 400.
  • International students must have a minimum TOEFL score of 79 or a 6 on IELTS or 53 on PTE.
  • All students must be fully accepted without academic conditions.
