To be considered for awards applicants must: • be a national of one of the following countries: India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand or Vietnam. • have been offered a place to study on an eligible undergraduate or Master’s degree course at the University’s Newcastle city centre campus for the 2020/21 academic year • be assessed as international for fee purposes • successful applicants will be selected on merit.

Vice-Chancellor’s Global Scholarships - Postgraduate

Student requirements

To be considered for the Vice-Chancellor’s Global Scholarships applicants must: • be assessed as international for fee purposes • hold an offer for an eligible Master’s degree programme at the University’s Newcastle city centre campus for the 2020/21 academic year • already have or expect to receive the equivalent of an upper second class UK honours degree or above Applicants of all nationalities (assessed as international for fee purposes) are eligible to apply for VCGS awards, except for those listed below. Applicants from the following countries are not eligible to apply for VCGS awards as the University offers specific schemes for these countries: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Thailand, Turkey, USA, Uganda, Venezuela, Vietnam. A scheme for postgraduate Master's applicants from Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda will be launched in February 2020. Eligible candidates will be assessed according to evidence of academic ability, evidence of commitment to studies and quality of application.

Newcastle University Sanctuary Scholarships

Student requirements

Eligibility Criteria 1.The following categories of applicants can apply under this scheme: a. asylum seekers and refugees b. children of asylum seekers and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (e.g. children migrants under 18)* 2. Applicants must be living in the North East of England (Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Northumberland, Cleveland and North Cumbria) at the time that they apply for consideration under the scheme.* 3. Applicants must have applied for a place on a Newcastle University degree programme. Priority will be given to applicants applying for their first degree. 4. Their predicted grades must meet the entry requirements for the degree concerned. 5. Applicants must meet the English language criteria for their course or have relevant qualifications to indicate their English language competency Personal circumstances will be taken into account if there is good reason for criterion 4 or 5 not being met. 6. Applicants must be unable to access mainstream funding, for example from Student Finance England or a local authority grant. These criteria have been discussed and agreed with the Asylum and Migration Justice Forum. *Applicants who have been granted Humanitarian Protection, Discretionary Leave to Remain as a result of an application for asylum, or the children of a parent in this position, may also be considered. Programme of Study Sanctuary Scholarship applications will be considered from students applying to the following programmes: • undergraduate degree programmes • postgraduate degree programmes, including doctorate level programmes (e.g. PhD) The following applicants are not eligible to apply for Sanctuary Scholarship funding: • Applicants for MB BS and BDS courses • Study abroad and exchange students • Applicants for non-degree awards (Higher Education Diploma, Higher Education Certificate, Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma).
