Industry Doctoral Training Centre Scholarship in Big Data

Eligibility requirements

You must have either:

  • recently completed an honours degree in computer science, data science or mathematical sciences, and received first-class honours
  • completed a research or coursework masters in a related field.

To participate in the research project, you'll need:

  • strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to publish research results, prepare reports and present the results of scientific investigations at national and international conferences
  • proven ability to work independently and as part of a team to prototype research ideas and develop them into demonstration and proof of concept systems
  • demonstrated experience of programming skills (e.g., Java, C++, R, Python)
  • to be enthusiastic and self-motivated.

It will support your application if you also have:

  • experience with big data tools (Hadoop, Apache Spark, Pig, H2O etc.)
  • some exposure to visualization techniques and tools (D3.js, Tableau, OpenGL, etc.)
  • a basic understanding of genetics.

Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship (Academic)

Eligibility requirements

You must:

  • be graduating Year 12 in 2017 or have graduated Year 12 in 2016
  • have an OP 1 or 2 (or equivalent) excluding bonus OPs/ranks
  • be starting university for the first time in 2018

You must also be one of:

  • an international student who has completed high school in Australia or an Australian curriculum overseas.

To keep your scholarship, you must:

  • remain enrolled full-time
  • maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 5.00 or higher in each semester.

You can:

take a leave of absence for up to 12 months (in accordance with our student rules), but only after you have completed one full-time semester of study. You won't receive scholarship payments during this time.

You will receive one of: 90 scholarships worth AUD $30,000 each. The scholarship will be paid as a stipend of AUD $3,750 after the HECS-HELP census date of each semester for the standard duration of your course, for up to four years (AUD $7,500 per year). 15 scholarships worth AUD $10,000 each. Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship (Elite Visual and Performing Arts)

Eligibility requirements

You must be one of:

  • an international student who has completed high school in Australia.

This scholarship is available for students who are applying for courses that have additional entry requirements like an audition or portfolio. You must be applying for admission into one of these courses for the first time:

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance Performance)
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts)
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting)
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music).

If you're interested in a Creative Industries course that isn't eligible for this scholarship, you may be eligible for the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship (Creative Industries) or the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship (Academic) instead.

You must:

  • remain enrolled full-time
  • maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 5 or above in each semester.

You can:

take a leave of absence for up to 12 months (in accordance with our student rules), but only after you have completed one full-time semester of study. You won't receive scholarship payments during a leave of absence.

You can't:

  • defer your scholarship offer. If you defer your course, you can re-apply for the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship the next year, provided that you haven't undertaken university study in the meantime
  • hold any other scholarship, except an Equity Scholarship. If you have any questions about holding other scholarships, contact our Scholarships Coordinator.

Brown Group Biomedical Engineering and Materials Scholarships

China Scholarship Council Scholarship

Study level

Eligibility requirements

You must:

  • meet the China Scholarship Council requirements, as outlined on the China Scholarship Council website (in Mandarin)
  • apply for and be admitted to a PhD, research masters or professional doctorate at QUT
  • meet the English language requirements for the scholarship:
  1. IELTS overall score of 6.5, with no subscore below 6
  2. TOEFL overall score of 90, with no subscore below 20

meet the academic requirements for the scholarship:

  • for masters courses: a completed bachelor degree with first class or upper-second-class (2A) honours or equivalent
  • for PhDs: a completed masters degree.

Apply for your research degree. When you complete the application form, you can indicate that you want to be considered for a China Scholarship Council scholarship.

Applications close in mid-January each year.

Value details

A tuition fee waiver for the duration of your course, which is normally one year for masters students and three years for doctoral students. You'll receive from the China Scholarship Council: funding for living allowances, one return airfare, funding for visa applications, health insurance. WH Bryan Earth Sciences PhD Scholarship

  • be applying for a PhD in the area of earth sciences and not yet received or accepted a PhD scholarship offer or be enrolled and commenced a PhD. The WH Bryan Earth Sciences PhD Scholarship is to support a new student and project.

Applications are open to future PhD candidates hosted by Queensland universities that teach in the earth sciences:

Vibration/AE-Based Gear Prognostics Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

You must have:

  • recently completed a Bachelor/Master of Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • received first-class honours (H1) or an upper second-class honours (H2A) degree from a recognized institution, or an equivalent degree from an overseas institution.

We'd prefer if you also have:

  • knowledge of rigid body dynamics, signal processing (spectral analysis) and stochastic processes
  • good programming skills in MATLAB and data acquisition capabilities.

While we don't expect you to have full knowledge of all the methods required, it's important that you're interested and motivated to acquire the knowledge and skills involved with the project.

Eligibility requirements

You will be considered for this scholarship if you: have completed a qualifying course from any country outside Australia with the required academic results; meet minimum English language entry requirements of IELTS 6.5 (no sub scores below 6) or equivalent for direct admission to the degree program. If you are completing an English preparation course at QUT, you may be eligible for this scholarship once you have met the English language requirements. You are not eligible for this scholarship if: you have completed your studies in Australia; you study either the Diploma in Business or Graduate Certificate in Business and Communication pathway courses.

To receive the ongoing scholarship after your first two semesters, you must: maintain a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 5.5 on the QUT 7-point scale throughout your course at QUT.
