The specific aims of the sports scholarships are: Recruit talented sportsmen and women to study at the Royal Agricultural University Assist those students to achieve their full sporting potential alongside their studies Enable the sports scholars to help raise the profile of the University through their sporting and academic endeavours Enhance the achievements of University sports teams as far as is reasonable through participation, representation or other forms of encouragement Scholarships are available (on adjudication) to sportsmen and women who compete (at least) at the county level or equivalent (this standard will vary from sport to sport). Scholars should be committed to representing the University and working with the University to achieve the aims of the sports scholarship scheme. Each scholarship will be available for the duration of the student’s studies whilst at the University, subject to a satisfactory annual review. Influencing factors for renewal of the scholarship each year will include levels of participation within the University sports teams, the external profiling achieved through such participation, and the scholars own personal achievements in both sporting and academic arenas.

You need to apply by using the online application form, together with supporting evidence. Please download and ask your referee to complete the scholarship reference form; the referee should be your most recent school/university tutor, employer, sports coach or team captain. We do not accept references from family members. Please note Scholarship applications cannot be considered without a satisfactory reference.

Sir Emrys Jones Memorial Trust Postgraduate Award

Student requirements
The Sir Emrys Jones Memorial Trust awards are available to postgraduate students who wish to study at the Royal Agricultural University, who are qualified for their selected programme, and who fulfill one of the following criteria: Have one or more parent or grandparent who is Welsh; Live or have lived or have a parent who lives or has lived in Wales; Been educated in Wales – including completing a first degree there (postgraduate applicants only) or have contributed to the cultural or sporting life and heritage of Wales and Be in financial need. Postgraduate students - individual awards may be given up to the value of £3,000, normally for one academic year only, based on merit to those applicants whose Welsh connection fulfils any one of the above criteria and who also demonstrates outstanding academic achievement in their previous studies. For part-time students, funding will be awarded pro rata. Bursaries will be awarded based on merit to those applicants whose Welsh connection fulfils any one of the above criteria and who also demonstrates academic achievement in their previous studies.

About the scholarship These scholarships are awarded to students who can demonstrate achievements in one or more of the following: Attainment of academic excellence Contribution to extra-curricular activities Overcoming of hardship (handicap or deprivation) Leadership, motivation, determination to succeed.
