Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for a Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship, you must:

  • be a Year 12 student and commencing a Swinburne degree in the year after leaving school  
  • achieve a minimum ATAR of 95.00
  • meet the prerequisites of your chosen degree.

Application details

There is no need to apply for the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship†. As long as you preference a Swinburne degree and achieve an ATAR of 95 or higher you will automatically be offered a Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship and entry into the High Achievers Program. All eligible students will be contacted once Year 12 results are released in December (Victorian Year 12) and January (other states and IB).

Value details

The Scholarship is worth AUD $5000 per annum for the normal duration of your chosen degree and includes membership into the High Achievers Program, plus a one-off payment of AUD $2000 towards an international study experience.

Swinburne/National ICT Australia Scholarship - Swinburne Software Innovation Laboratory

Eligibility requirements

  • First-class at honours or master level in computer science, software engineering or related disciplines. The candidates must have some research exposure during their studies.
  • Fulfill the PhD candidature entry requirements of Swinburne
  • Selection of candidates will depend on skills and the requirements of each project.

Tuition Fee Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

Tuition Fee Scholarships are considered on a case-by-case basis. International students seeking a Tuition Fee Scholarship must seek support from their Principal Coordinating Supervisor.

If supported, the Principal Coordinating Supervisor is required to complete an Application for Tuition Fee Scholarship justifying their grounds for support, which will then be subject to the approval of the Faculty and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development).

Please note that additional requirements may be requested at the discretion of the Faculty.

Tuition Fee Scholarship Conditions

  • The scholarship applies to tuition fees only.
  • The scholarship is personal to the recipient and cannot be transferred to another person.
  • The scholarship has no cash value and is not refundable.
  • Swinburne reserves the right to cancel the scholarship at any time in the event that you fail to comply with any applicable standards of conduct, statutes, regulations, policies and procedures of the University, including any finding of academic or general misconduct.
  • All conditions of the offer must be met.
  • You must commence your studies in the scholarship commencement period for which you are applying.
  • You are not able to defer your studies to another year. If a deferral is required, you must apply again the following year if you are unable to take up your scholarship.
  • If you do not complete your research degree within four years full-time equivalent, you will be liable for any tuition fees incurred after the expiry of the scholarship.
  • The allocation of this scholarship is subject to review on a semester-by-semester basis by the Swinburne Higher Degrees Research Committee. You will be notified of any changes to your award in advance.

Swinburne University Postgraduate Research Award

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for a SUPRA, a student:

  • may be a domestic or an international student; and
  • must have completed a Bachelor Degree with First Class or Upper Second Class Honours, or be regarded by the University as having an equivalent level of attainment in accordance with these Conditions of Award; and
  • must be undertaking a Research Doctorate; and
  • must be enrolled as a full-time student, unless the University has approved a part-time SUPRA for the student under these Conditions of Award; and
  • must not hold a Research Doctorate or an equivalent research qualification; and
  • must not previously have held a postgraduate research scholarship (some exceptions may apply, contact Swinburne Research for more information); and
  • must not be receiving an equivalent award, scholarship or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the SUPRA stipend rate, to undertake the HDR. Income from sources unrelated to the course of study is permitted but must be within the confines of HDR policy section 7.9 ‘Employment Commitments’.

You must not be:

  1. Currently enrolled at Swinburne, unless you are enrolled in ELICOS only
  2. In receipt of another form of scholarship or reduced fee arrangement
  3. In receipt of any credit transfers or exemptions

Standard course progression rules apply. Scholarships will cease for students who do not meet standard course progression requirements
