Full-time current RSAA PhD student. A successful applicant is ineligible to apply again. International students.

The Alex Rodgers Travelling Scholarship is offered to one or two RSAA graduate students to travel abroad with direct relevance to their thesis work (It will not be awarded to fund an overseas observing run). The award is based on scientific merit of the program, benefit of the program to RSAA and the student, and the effective use of the funds from the scholarship.

CECS VTARA Honours Scholarship

Study level

Undergraduate

Eligibility requirements

The award is available each year to a current or prospective ANU student who:  

(a) is a domestic or international student;  

(b) is enrolled in an embedded Honours program offered by the ANU College of Engineering & Computer Science and has completed a minimum of 96 units of ENGN, COMP or CECS courses OR is enrolled in a single Honours year program offered by the ANU College of Engineering & Computer Science in the year of scholarship offer;  

(c) has a strong academic record represented by a minimum career GPA of 5.5/7.0 at ANU;  

(d) has demonstrated interest in areas related to Information, Energy, Environmental Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Software Engineering.

(e) can demonstrate the experience and / or knowledge necessary to deal with the potential difficulties of an overseas internship in a developing country.

Application details

Applications are called for at the beginning of each calendar year with a closing date set by the College.

The application must be submitted on the prescribed electronic form and supporting documentation forwarded separately to the College prior to the closing date published on the ANU scholarships website.

The Scholarship is valued at AUD $15,000 per student per year with an additional AUD $2,650 travel grant, which will enable recipients to complete the industry experience component of their scholarship.

Research School of Economics Neil Vousden Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

The Scholarship shall be available to a student who:

  • is an International student;
  • has applied for admission and will enrol into the Master of Economics; or
  • will have completed at least 24 units of study in the Master of Economics.

Benefits

Up to 2 awards valued at up to 33% of the value of the Australian Government Research Training Program (AGRTP) Stipend Scholarship are available each year. The award will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date for two semesters following the awarding of the scholarship, unless otherwise stated in the letter of offer.

ACTION Trust Honours Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

The scholarship shall be available for award each year to students who:

  • have been successful in gaining entry into the Honours year of a program of study through the Fenner School of Environment and Society or the Earth and Marine Science program in the Research School of Earth Sciences:
  • have a strong academic record;
  • are intending to undertake research in an area relating to the interests of the ACTION Trust and/or to environment and sustainability;
  • have willing and suitable supervision.

Selection Basis

The scholarship shall be awarded principally on academic merit. The Selection Committee may also take into consideration the field of study which the candidate is developing for their thesis the availability of suitable supervision, the applicant's previous academic record, and reports from two academic referees familiar with the applicant's work (if required).

Dean’s International Science Excellence Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

The scholarship is available each year to a prospective ANU student who is:

  • an international student. Dependents of the staff of diplomatic or consular missions are also eligible; and
  • undertaking undergraduate or postgraduate studies at an institute which has an articulation agreement with the Colleges. Click here for the list of the Colleges' articulation partners; and
  • enrolled/enrolling in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program in the Colleges.

Selection

The award of scholarships will be based on academic merit.  A Committee will consider the marks achieved in academic courses relevant to studying science at the ANU. Any academic achievements you list in your application will also influence your ranking.

As a guide, applicants with the equivalent of a High Distinction at ANU will be considered. However, as the scholarships are highly competitive a mark at this level does not guarantee a scholarship.

National Security Policy Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

The award is available each year to a prospective ANU student who has received an offer of admission from the College and is:

  • international student;
  • enrolling in the Master of National Security Policy or the Master of National Security Policy (Advanced) degree program;

The Scholarship shall be awarded in three (3) divisions:

Division 1: Employees of the Australian Public Service, or State and Territory equivalents
Division 2: International students

The Scholarship shall be awarded to an applicant who:

For Division 1: is an employee of the Australian Public Service or a State/Territory and has completed a Bachelor degree or international equivalent in a cognate discipline with a minimum of Distinction average or above.
For Division 2: is an international student and has completed a Bachelor degree with Honours or international equivalent in a cognate discipline with a minimum of Distinction average or above and meets the ANU English language requirements.

John Curtin School of Medical Research PhD Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

Each year the John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) may offer 8-10 John Curtin School of Medical Research PhD Scholarship.  The scholarship aims to attract students of high calibre, with research qualifications and/or expertise, to pursue graduate research involving a biomedical research project for a PhD degree at the JCSMR.

The award will be available to a prospective student who:

  • is an international student;
  • enrolled or enrolling full-time in a program of study for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University;
  • holds an Australian Bachelor Honours degree with First Class Honours or equivalent, and has research publications and/or relevant experience.

There is no separate application for this scholarship as all eligible applicants will be automatically considered. Students wanting to be considered for the scholarship in semester 1 must have applied for admission by the 31st October the year prior. ARC Centre of Excellence for Plant Energy Biology Warwick Hillier Honours Scholarships

The Scholarships shall be available for award to students who:

  • have been successful in gaining entry into the Honours year of an undergraduate program offered by the Research School of Biology;
  • have a strong academic record;
  • have a willing and suitable supervisor who is associated with the Centre of Excellence for Plant Energy Biology.

Benefits

One successful applicant will be offered a Warwick Hillier Honours Scholarship which provides a stipend of AUD $7,000.   All other applicants will be considered for ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology Honours Scholarships at equal value.

  • is an international student enrolling in an accredited HDR course of study at the University; and
  • has also been awarded an ANU University Research Scholarship; and
  • has achieved a minimum of H1 or H1 equivalent in their prior studies.

The scholarship covers:

  • International Student Fees (ISF) for the duration of the award.
  • For recipients who hold a Student Visa (Subclass 500): Full Overseas Health Cover (OSHC) for the program duration, including cover for immediate family.

The scholarship will provide for an annual living expense stipend paid fortnightly in arrears, and a fee-waiver scholarship for international students. The scholarship also provides allowances for thesis reimbursement as well as paid medical, maternity and paternity leave.

Selection will be made on the basis of an assessment of the student's research potential. This will take into account a measure of the applicant's overall performance in undergraduate and (if any) Master's coursework as well as an assessment of their most recent graded research writing (thesis) and accomplishments (research publications, awards, referee evaluation).

Selection of this award requires each of the ANU Colleges to convene a selection committee to score and rank ALL eligible H1 (or equivalent) applicants in a merit-based process. Overall ranking includes consideration of:

  • Research Potential, support from the prospective supervisor and location in which the research will be undertaken
  • Referee reports
  • English Language competency
  • Comparison with other applications received in the same scholarship round
