Cardiff Metropolitan University traces its roots back to 1865, when it started as a School of Arts. Based in Cardiff, Wales, the university has three campuses – Llandaff campus, Cyncoed campus and Plas Gwyn Residential campus.
Organised into 5 different schools, the university is home to 11,000 students, with over 1,200 international students from 143 countries. Cardiff Met enjoys strong partnerships with some of the leading organisations and institutes in the UK, Wales and around the world; offering courses that are aligned to industry trends. According to the National Student Survey 2018, overall student satisfaction in Cardiff Met has seen a steady rise and some degree programmes even achieved 100% satisfaction among students.
Cardiff Met excels in its transnational education quality, and has joined CIMSPA Higher Education Partnership Pilot Scheme in 2018. The university also believes in maintaining a healthy environment, and fosters a strong relationship between its students and over 100,000 alumni all over the world.
Cardiff Met has achieved recognition for its sustainability programmes, being ranked 1st in Wales and 8th in the UK in 2017.
The university’s student support team offers one-to-one guidance about careers, health and accommodation. Its Careers Service team ensures students know where to go and what to do after completing their studies. About 95% of its students were found to have entered employability within 6 months of graduating.

In the School of Art & Design, the courses have been designed to enable students to choose how they want their talent to develop. Students can elect a business focus for their work, and concentrate on exploring the cutting edge techniques and styles of their chosen subject, or challenge themselves to take their work to new heights in completely new directions. The school has workshops and extensive studio space for students to use, ensuring they can work as professionals from the very start of their studies.
Located on the Cyncoed and Llandaff campus, the school is split into 3 departments: Humanities, Professional Development and Initial Teacher Education. With a reputation for excellence worldwide, the school has been instructing Initial Teacher Education for over 60 years. The school is built of over 90 full time teaching staff, and visiting lecturers who are experts in their fields.
Based across both of the university campuses, Cardiff Metropolitan continues to improve the study of Sport and Health Sciences. The Cyncoed campus is solely devoted to Sport and Health Science and boasts of state-of the-art facilities for students to learn and develop their skills. The School continues to advance its current expertise, whilst also creating new collaborations between sport and health.
Based in the heart of Cardiff, the School of Management offers a wide range of programmes carefully designed to help students to develop skills and knowledge most desired by employers. Students are supported to gain independence and confidence, and encouraged to make things happen!
Launched in 2018, the School of Technologies works carefully with companies and employers across the tech industry to create courses of study that meet the student demand and employer need in the sector. The school consists of leading lecturers and researchers in software engineering, digital design and development and computer science.
Cardiff Met University believes that employability means developing students to be able manage their own career path, making a positive contribution to the economy and society. The university works in partnership with the students to install the Cardiff Met EDGE. The EDGE is a series of Ethical, Digital, Global and Entrepreneurial skills designed to enhance student’s confidence, resilience and experiences to prepare them for life after university and the transition into employment.
The university offers high quality courses that have strong links with industry, and gives the opportunity for students to gain meaningful work experience. There are also extensive opportunities for personal and career development.
With the help of the Careers Service, and the institutions focus on employability and graduate opportunities, 95% of Cardiff Metropolitan graduates enter employment or further study within six months of graduation, according to the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) Survey in 2016.
Cardiff Metropolitan has recently launched its much-anticipated Cardiff School of Technologies. The School of Technologies is partnered with technology-focused companies across the Cardiff Capital Region to support their plans for expansion with 'work ready' graduates. Areas of study include data science, cyber security, mobile computing, artificial intelligence and systems engineering.
The university has also climbed the league tables in both the Complete University Guide and the Guardian University Guide, reflecting high levels of graduate employment, research quality and student satisfaction. It has also been recognised on the International stage, receiving the Comprehensive Internationalisation Badge from the International Association of Universities.
Closer to home, the university has continued its commitment to sustainability. Cardiff Metropolitan has been named the best university in Wales, and 8th in the UK for sustainability in the annual People and Planet University League. This sustainability includes a successful commitment to using 100% green electricity since October 2017, generated entirely from renewable sources such as wind, photovoltaic and landfill and biomass gasses.
Cardiff Metropolitan has continued to invest in its facilities, and in 2017 opened a brand-new GBP 2.4 million Outdoor Athletics Arena, to accompany the existing National Indoor Athletics Centre at the School of Sport and Health Sciences. Along with the launch of the first-of-its-kind Sports Broadcast MSc, the school continues to offer world class training to sports professionals on and off the pitch.

The LTDU is a central unit based at the Llandaff Campus. It works as a team to develop, support and enhance student learning, with colleagues across the university, to promote the highest standards in learning and teaching. This is achieved by raising awareness of current issues and progressing the scholarship of learning and teaching.

Counselling sessions are offered to provide a safe, supportive and confidential environment, where students can talk over any difficult issues in their life. This can lead to increased self-awareness and help support students to move on in a productive and positive way.
The Disability Service is available to all students, irrespective of whether they are full time, part time or are students from outside of the UK. Support can be provided to students with a number of different conditions, including mobility impairments, long term health conditions and sensory impairments.
Cardiff Metropolitan University employs Nursing Officers that form a committed and integrated system of care for students. This includes the physical, emotional and psychological health and well-being of students, where support is often offered through health education events.
