Heriot-Watt University is a pioneering institute established in 1821 in Edinburgh. Over the course of two centuries, Heriot-Watt has evolved into a world-renowned institution with a global outlook. It is ranked 235th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2024. The university is also ranked in the top 20 universities in the UK for Engineering in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2024.
Though its roots are in Edinburgh, Scotland, Heriot-Watt University aspires to be truly international in ambition and reach. The university has five campuses across the UK, Dubai and Malaysia. Students receive excellent support when it comes to finding a career after their course ends. The university’s Careers Advisory Service offers individual advice and group workshops on CVs, application forms, assessment centres, selection tests and interviews.

The Heriot-Watt Edinburgh campus is home to the world-leading centre in robotics and artificial intelligence – The National Robotarium. Pioneering research and development at the Robotarium helps students gain hands-on experience and network with industry experts in the fields of data, AI and robotics.
The Edinburgh Campus is also home to Oriam, a cutting-edge facility and training hub for, among others, Scotland's national football and rugby squads.

Heriot-Watt is accessible to students from around the world, with a range of qualifications accepted for admission.
Students who do not speak English as their first language must prove their proficiency, which they can do in a number of ways. Whilst various tests are accepted as proof, the level required falls in line with IELTS scores of:

Heriot-Watt University offers a range of scholarships and bursaries to help students pay for their education and other living costs while studying at university.
Tuition fees vary according to residency status, level of study and degree programme.
A number of scholarships are offered on each of the UK, Malaysia and Dubai campuses, including International Merit Scholarships which award GBP 1,500 to GBP 3,000 based on academic excellence.
The university awarded over GBP 500,000 in merit scholarships to international fee-paying students who enrolled in September 2023 and January 2024. In most instances, scholarships were awarded as a GBP 1,500 reduction in fees.
